The Citroen Basalt has earned a commendable 4-star rating in the Bharat NCAP safety crash test, achieving this score for both Adult and Child Occupant Protection.

Equipped with six airbags as standard, along with ABS, EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), and a reverse parking camera, the Basalt offers solid safety features right from the base model.

Priced between Rs 7.99 lakh and Rs 13.83 lakh (ex-showroom), the Basalt stands as a strong contender in the SUV-coupe segment. Having been crash tested for the first time, the Basalt’s results are particularly impressive, making it the first non-Tata vehicle to undergo testing by Bharat NCAP.

Crash Test Results

In the safety test, the Citroen Basalt scored 26.19 out of 32 points for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 35.90 out of 49 for Child Occupant Protection (COP), earning 4-star ratings in both categories.

Adult Occupant Protection (AOP)

  • Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test: 10.19 out of 16.00
  • Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test: 16.00 out of 16.00

In the frontal impact test, both the driver’s and front passenger’s head and neck were well protected, while the driver’s chest received strong protection and the co-driver’s chest was rated "adequate." Thigh protection for both the driver and co-driver was considered "marginal." In the side impact test, protection for the head, chest, abdomen, and pelvis was excellent, resulting in a perfect score of 16 out of 16.

Child Occupant Protection (COP)

For Child Occupant Protection, the Basalt secured 19.90 out of 24 in the dynamic test with child restraint systems. Protection for the 18-month-old child in frontal and side impacts was excellent, scoring a perfect 8 out of 8 and 4 out of 4, respectively. However, the score for a 3-year-old child in frontal impact was less impressive, with 3.9 out of 8, though side impact protection again scored 4 out of 4.

Despite some areas for improvement, the Basalt’s overall performance in the crash tests is highly commendable. For the test, both the Basalt NA petrol variants (You and Plus) and the turbo-petrol variants (Plus and Max) were evaluated.

Citroen Basalt: Safety Features and Powertrain

The Citroen Basalt’s safety suite includes six airbags, ABS with EBD, hill-start assist, electronic stability control, tyre pressure monitoring (TPMS), ISOFIX child seat anchors, and a reverse camera with parking sensors.

Under the hood, the Basalt is powered by a 110 PS 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine available with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. An 82 PS 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine is also offered, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission.
