BMW M5
BMW has unleashed its seventh-generation M5 in India, bringing a stunning blend of luxury, technology, and unmatched performance. Priced at ₹1.99 crore (ex-showroom), the new M5 is the most powerful iteration yet, courtesy of its plug-in hybrid V8 powertrain. It stands as a testament to BMW’s relentless pursuit of performance excellence over the past 40 years.
At the heart of the new BMW M5 is the legendary 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, now paired with an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed automatic transmission. This combination delivers an awe-inspiring total of 727hp and 1,000Nm of torque. The petrol engine alone produces 585hp and 750Nm, while the electric motor contributes an additional 199hp and 280Nm.
Despite tipping the scales at around 2.5 tonnes—a 500kg increase over its predecessor—the M5 rockets from 0-100kph in just 3.5 seconds, and 0-200kph in 10.9 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 250kph, extendable to 305kph with the optional M Driver’s Package.

The M5’s hybrid credentials don’t compromise practicality. Its 18.6kWh battery provides an impressive WLTP-certified 69km of pure electric range, perfect for short urban commutes. In electric mode, the M5 can reach speeds of up to 140kph. The car also features three distinct drive modes:
The M5 supports AC charging up to 7.4kW, ensuring quick top-ups for the battery.

BMW has redefined the exterior of the M5 to exude aggression and purpose. Key elements include:
The shorter wheelbase compared to the standard 5-Series gives the M5 a sporty stance, while staggered wheels—20-inch at the front and 21-inch at the rear—add to its athletic character. Customers can opt for a panoramic sunroof, though it adds 50kg of weight.

Step inside, and the M5's interior blends luxury with performance. The cabin features a curved display that combines a 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster powered by BMW OS 8.5.
M-specific touches include a flat-bottomed steering wheel, illuminated M5 logos on the seats, and ambient lighting tailored for a sporty vibe. The feature list includes:

BMW has equipped the M5 with adaptive suspension and rear-wheel steering as standard. This ensures nimbleness, even with the added weight of the hybrid system. The xDrive all-wheel-drive system is rear-biased, but drivers can switch to 2WD mode for a pure, rear-driven experience, perfect for track days or spirited drives.
M compound brakes are standard, with optional M carbon-ceramic brakes for those seeking even greater stopping power.
The M5 is available in a palette of striking colors, including Alpine White, Brooklyn Grey, Isle of Man Green, and Marina Bay Blue. For a bespoke touch, customers can opt for BMW Individual paintwork. Interior color options range from classic Black to bold Kyalami Orange and Red/Black combinations.
At ₹1.99 crore, the M5 is priced just ₹4 lakh more than the recently launched Mercedes-AMG C63S E Performance, which features a 2.0-liter four-cylinder hybrid engine. Despite the higher price, the M5 offers significantly more power and a longer electric-only range, making it a standout choice in its segment.
BMW has positioned the M5 as the ultimate performance sedan. As Vikram Pawah, President and CEO of BMW Group India, aptly stated:
"The BMW M5 is the original performance sedan. If you’re looking for compromise, you’ve come to the wrong place."
With its hybrid powertrain, cutting-edge technology, and relentless performance, the new BMW M5 is more than just a car—it’s a statement.
