MG Windsor Outpaces Tata Nexon EV in October 2024

MG Motor has created ripples in the Indian EV market with its Windsor EV, dethroning the Tata Nexon EV as the country's best-selling electric car. With an impressive 3,116 units sold in October 2024, the Windsor EV claimed 30% of the total passenger EV market, signaling a strong start for the newcomer launched just a month prior. The Windsor’s robust debut also marked MG Motor India’s highest monthly sales at 7,045 units, showcasing a 37.92% YoY growth.

A Head-to-Head Comparison: MG Windsor EV vs. Tata Nexon EV

MG Windsor EV Highlights

The Windsor EV stands out for its advanced technology and luxurious features. It offers a 38kWh IP67-rated lithium-ion phosphate battery delivering 332 km of range, paired with a 134 hp motor producing 220 Nm of torque. The car can fast-charge up to 80% in just 55 minutes using a DC charger.

Inside, the Windsor EV redefines premium with:

  • A massive 15.6-inch infotainment system featuring Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
  • An 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster.
  • Aero-lounge rear seats with 135° recline.
  • A panoramic glass roof, ambient lighting, and a 9-speaker Infinity sound system.

Its focus on safety includes features like 6 airbags, a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control, and a tire pressure monitoring system.

Tata Nexon EV Updates

The Tata Nexon EV remains a strong contender with its recent upgrades:

  • A 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, offering customizable layouts and navigation features.
  • A new 12.3-inch touchscreen with an improved user interface, OTA updates, and a 360-degree camera.
  • Tata’s exclusive arcade.ev app store, which enables OTT streaming and gaming while the car charges.

The Nexon EV’s performance includes a larger 40.5kWh battery offering a range of up to 465 km. It also boasts fast-charging capabilities and robust build quality with Tata's safety pedigree.

Why Windsor EV Stole the Spotlight

The Windsor’s unique features, competitive pricing (starting at ₹13.50 lakh), and innovative Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model made it an attractive choice for Indian buyers. With 15,176 bookings on its first day, it demonstrated a demand that Tata’s Nexon EV hadn’t seen recently.

While the Nexon EV still offers a longer range and competitive technology, the Windsor EV’s fresh design, modern interior, and safety features have positioned it as the new favorite in India’s electric car segment.

MG Motor’s Windsor EV has not only raised the bar for rivals like Tata Nexon EV but has also reaffirmed India’s growing appetite for electric mobility with an elevated standard for design, technology, and value.
